I’m Jamie Fitzgerald, the Polk County Auditor, writing to express my appreciation for Pat Gill and to help Woodbury voters understand the impact Pat has in Iowa Auditor and Voting Advocate communities.
Pat doesn’t readily discuss his accomplishments and importance to election staff in Iowa and throughout the country.
He’s crafted an Iowa election staff training program that’s become a national model.
He’s led National Committees on voting rights/legislation through the non-partisan Election Center.
Pat mentors newly-elected county auditors, earning the trust of all Iowa Auditors, Republicans and small county auditors included.
And – as Journal readers know - Pat is the only county auditor in quite some time to uncover election fraud that made it to federal prosecutors. Pat methodically and thoroughly made sure the law was followed – despite being told by the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office to call federal partners, rather than assisting. He was on an island by himself, but he had the wisdom to forge a fair, impartial path forward.
During the pandemic, Pat ensured that Woodbury County voters could vote safely, which ultimately led to being sued by Donald Trump’s campaign. Pat didn’t let legal distractions deter him from pursuing a voter-first mentality that ensured voters received an absentee ballot request allowing secure voting, a practice halted when the Iowa Legislature outlawed the practice.
Pat is essential to many County Auditors. I often pick his brain before tough decisions. Woodbury voters, remember that Pat Gill puts you first in all his Auditor-Recorder dealings. He deserves your vote for Woodbury County Auditor.
