Ben Mulford Kicks Off Campaign for Woodbury County Attorney

5:30 PM on Tuesday, March 3 | Sioux City Public Library

benBen Mulford announces that he will seek the Democratic nomination to the position of Woodbury County Attorney.

Mulford grew up in Fresno, Calif., to Sioux City parents Jim and Nancy Mulford. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Marines. He finished his stint in the marines as a Sergeant, having served as a pay clerk and machine gunner. After copleting his echelor's Degree at Fresno Pacific University, he earned a law degree at the University of South Dakota Achool of law in 2017.

Mulford’s passion has always been public service, from his time in the Marines to the IRS, Bureau of Reclamation, Iowa Department on Aging, and his current position as an attorney in the Iowa Public Defender’s Office.

Working in the local Public Defender’s Office, Mulford says he has seen firsthand the need for criminal prosecutions that provide solace to the victim and solutions for the defendant. Serving as the voice of defendants on Veteran’s Treatment Court and Mental Health Court, he has been inspired by hundreds of defendants choosing to improve themselves and change their paths.

“We must change the County Attorney’s Office’s focus from quantity to quality,” said Mulford. “It’s time to stop wasting resources and focus on the roots of the problems in Woodbury County. Should I be elected, I will steer the office toward an end-goal of achieving a safer, happier, and healthier community.”

Mulford, his wife Abi Calvert, and their one-year-old daughter Daisy, live in Sioux City.

Mulford will kick off his campaign at a community event on March 3rd, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. in the Gleeson Room of the downtown Sioux City Public Library. All Woodbury County residents are welcome to join the campaign for conversation and celebratory cake.
