Democrats to Hold Special Nominating Convention for Woodbury County Supervisor Seats
On Wednesday, June 24, Woodbury County Democrats will hold a special nominating convention to get candidates on the ballot for the general election on November 3. The convention will be held during the Woodbury County Democrats’ regular monthly Central Committee meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the Gleeson Room of the main branch of the Sioux City Public Library at 529 Pierce Street. All Democrats are encouraged to attend, but voting is limited to elected delegates to the County Convention.
The nominating convention will give audience members a chance to hear from four candidates who have stepped up to be in contention for the offices of Woodbury County Supervisor.
In District 2, encompassing northern and western portions of Sioux City, the Democratic candidates vying for the nomination are:
- Michael Bayala
- Jody House
- Maria Rundquist
The Democratic nominee in District 2 will face Republican Daniel Bittinger, whose first term is expiring, in the general election.
In District 4, encompassing portions of Sioux City and Sergeant Bluff, Brittney Wilson is the only Democrat seeking nomination, but to get on the ballot, her nomination must be formalized at this special convention.
The District 4 Supervisor’s seat has been held by Matthew Ung since 2014. Ung has announced his retirement at the expiration of this term, and Republicans have not yet announced a candidate for this seat.
