Recognizing Need for Change, Hibbs Announces Run for School Board
Jeb Hibbs announces his candidacy for the Sioux City School Board.
Hibbs says he felt inspired to run after seeing the past and current challenges faced by the School Board and district, including efforts to retain great teachers and moments where Board members' actions didn't fully consider the impact on schools, teachers, staff, and students.
Says Hibbs, "We need to have change on the School Board. No more bullies. The only way we are going to change this is to get out and vote, and every vote matters! I believe I can help make the changes we need to make this a better place for our kids to get a quality education and become our future leaders."
If elected, Hibbs say his he will focus on three main areas:
- Transparency. Hibbs believes that accountability starts with visibility, that the community can handle the truth, but can't handle being left in the dark. He will strive to be as transparent as possible at all times.
- Solution-based communication. Hibbs says we need to talk about solutions, not just problems, shifting the conversation toward constructive outcomes rather than blame or division. Working together with the other board members to grow this district is how he will help achieve this, he says.
- Refocusing on kids. Says Hibbs, "With every decision, we need to answer one
question: Is this good for the kids? We owe them our best effort, not later, but today. I will ensure policies, resources and energy are aligned with what is happening in front of students every day."
Hibbs’ experience in roles such as Mechanic, Sales, and currently Parts Manager, has helped him develop skills in budgeting, communication, and leadership—qualities that will help him listen to and appreciate everyone's perspectives.
