Woodbury Dems Lay Groundwork for Prominent County Party

Fired up, ready to go!

Central Committee Meeting provides springboard headed into 2026 elections

The Central Committee of the Woodbury County Democrats (WCD) met on Wednesday, March 26, to elect new officers and discuss its strategic plan. The meeting was well attended, with more than 55 people in attendance.

The group voted in the following officers:

  • Ryan Akerberg, Chair
  • Penny Rosfjord, Assistant Chair
  • Kenneth Kroll, Treasurer
  • Karen Havlicek, Secretary

Retiring Chair Dave Dawson led the meeting with his customary competence and urgency. We are grateful for his leadership, thank him for his service and look forward to his continued engagement.

Newly-elected Chair Ryan Akerberg then presented the WCD Strategic Plan, a video of which may be viewed here. In his comments, Ryan stressed the importance of year-round engagement through the hub-and-spoke organization the party is building.  He made special note of the fact that by organizing now rather than six months before the next election, Democrats take advantage of the greatest asset we have in this moment—time!

The group also received updates from Treyla Lee on school board activities and Alex Watters and Matt O’Kane on city issues.

The meeting ended with an invitation to Democrats to get involved:

You don’t have to be an official member of the Central Committee to attend our meetings. Regular meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month - please join us at our next one at 6:00 on April 23 at the downtown branch of the Sioux City Public Library, 529 Pierce Street in the Gleeson Room.
