Ryan Bernsten to Headline Woodbury County Democrats’ Fundraiser

The Woodbury County Democratic Party (WCDP) announces that Ryan Bernsten will be the keynote speaker at its annual fundraiser, the Harry Hopkins Dinner.

Bernsten is a playwright, author, and speaker. A graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Oxford, he traveled to all 50 states to talk with Americans about who we are and who we want to be. His book, 50 States of Mind: A Journey to Rediscover American Democracy, grew out of that trip and has sparked civic conversations across the country.

As a playwright, Bernsten’s work has been produced internationally—from the Edinburgh Fringe to off-Broadway. His writing has appeared in Newsweek, USA Today, The Kansas City Star, and The Oxford Political Review. Bernsten currently serves as Director of Brand & Partnerships at American Public Square, a Kansas City-based organization that helps bring people together to find solutions across political divides, and as playwright-in-residence at Kansas City Public Theatre.

WCDP’s Harry Hopkins Dinner is Friday, Oct. 17, at 5:30 at the Betty Strong Encounter Center. In addition to Bernsten’s remarks, the event will include a catered meal with craft beer, wine and mocktails; live and silent auctions; live music by Mike Langley; artist Paul Chelsted creating a painting on site for auction, and games on the lawn. Child care is available for a limited number of children age 2 and up. Seating is limited.
