Democrats Continue Rural Tour with Activities Planned for Sloan and Hornick

Press Release

(WOODBURY COUNTY, IOWA) September 11, 2026 —The week of Sept. 7, Woodbury County Democrats announced plans to commence a Rural Listening and Canvassing Tour across towns throughout Woodbury County. Since then, candidates Jessica Lopez-Walker (Iowa House District 2 candidate), Ben Mulford (County Attorney candidate) and Brittney Wilson (County Supervisor candidate) attended the Lawton City Council meeting, and Woodbury Democrats followed that up with door-knocking in Lawton, with the addition of State Senator Catelin Drey and Woodbury County Supervisor candidate Jody House, on Saturday, Sept. 12.

“The rural canvassing tour has so far been enlightening. Over the week, we met local officials in Lawton, and saw them swear in their new mayor, Rod Hamm,” said Wilson. “We also heard about their plans to expand their fire station and how they are managing their wastewater treatment. There’s really no substitute for meeting Woodbury County leaders and voters in person and hearing firsthand about the issues that matter to them.”

The Rural Tour continues the week of Sept. 14 with county-wide candidates House, Mulford and Wilson planning to attend City Council meetings in Hornick and Sloan. On Saturday, Sept. 19, Woodbury Democrats will launch a canvassing event for both Sloan and Hornick from the Sloan Community Hall at 423 Evans Street.

The county party will provide volunteers with snacks and drinks from 9:00 to 3:00, and serve pizza for lunch over the noon hour. They will also award raffle prizes to winning volunteer canvassers who complete a shift. They invite all interested persons to join them, whether to get better acquainted with the candidates or to help knock a few doors.

After the Sloan and Hornick events, the Rural Tour will continue with stops in:

  • Sergeant Bluff
  • Moville
  • Anthon and
  • Correctionville
